Its been a common questions and most of the people often curious to know what are the actual difference among these 3 types of fiber materials.
Here we try to arrange a brief and its applications. Hopefull it would help to have a clear idea on these materials and performances:
Carbon Fiber:
Carbon fiber yarn is made from thin and strong filaments composed mostly of carbon atoms. These filaments are known as carbon fibers and are produced through a chemical process involving precursor materials like polyacrylonitrile (PAN), rayon, or petroleum pitch. It is used in the manufacturing of composite materials such as fabric, laminates, mesh, rebar and other composite parts.
Features:
- This yarn has very high strength such 4500-6500Mpa or more
- Its light weight and are widely used for Construction, Arospace, Automobile, Droens and Robotic, and sports equipments.
- Its 3-4 times lighter and 2 times stronger than steel
- The price is higher comparing to basalt or glass fiber

Basalt Fiber:
Basalt fiber is made from natural volcanic basalt rock. The rock is melted at approximately 1400–1500°C and extruded into continuous filaments, without adding any chemicals or additives. This natural basalt fibers yarn are often used to produce fabric, rebar and mesh. Those are wide used specially in construction of Dome, Civil structure, Road and Railway construction etc.
Features:
- Moderate tensile strength but high modulus of elasticity. with a strength of 2500-3000 Mpa, Modulus of about 90 Gpa.
- Its used for producing frp rebar, cosntructions, and composite parts
- Comparatively cheaper than Carbon fiber materials.

Fiberglass:
Fiberglass material is made from extremely fine fibers of molten glass. It is produced by melting silica sand and other raw materials at high temperatures and drawing them into continuous filaments.
Features:
- Corrosion resistance
- Cheap cost comparing to basalt and carbon fiber
- Widely used for producing fiberglass fabric, mesh and FRP rod.
- Lower tensile stnergth comparing to carbon fiber.
- Its environment friendly long lasting materials.
